Book Review: Animal Farm

The book I read was Animal Farm by George Orwell. In the story, a group of animals take over a farm, with a pig named Snowball leading them. Snowball believed that "All animals are equal" and started teaching the other animals to read. Another pig, Napoleon, took some pups and trained them privately. Snowball announces his ideas of a windmill, but Napoleon sent his dogs to attack him, and Snowball did not appear in the story after that, presumably dead. After Napoleon gained power, he told the animals that Snowball is evil and tried to abuse his power, changing the Seven Commandments of Animalism, to the pigs' benefit. A farmer attacked the farm, and in the process many animals were injured, including Boxer, a horse. Napoleon said he would send him to the vet, but Boxer's friend Benjamin found out that the car Boxer is in is bound to a Horse slaughtering place. Years passed, and the pigs began to look more and behave more like oppressive humans. In the end, the animals can't even differentiate between the pigs and the humans.
My favorite character was Boxer because he was hardworking and I felt that he did not get what he deserved in the end, getting sold by the pigs to the Horse slaughtering place just for the pigs to earn money for whisky.

Book Review: Around the World in 80 days

The book I read was Around the World in 80 days by Jules Verne. It is about a man named Phileas Fogg and his adventures around the world. In the beginning of the story, Fogg hires a new servant named Passepartout. Fogg decided to bet that he can travel around the world in less that 80 days. They rescued an Indian woman on the way named Aouda, and meanwhile in Britain there was a bank robbery and a detective named Fix believed that he was the robber. However, when the travellers were back in Britain, they were ahead of schedule, but Fix put them in jail for just enough time to delay their arrival to London, and caused Fogg to believe that he had lost the bet, but actually he was early by one day.
I like Passepartout the most in this story because he is loyal and has faith in his master.

Book Review: Treasure Island

The book I've read is Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Jim Hawkins was a innkeeper of Admiral Benbow Inn. One day, a sea dog came to his inn, and wants him to look out for other sailors. Jim did not know that he had an important map that could lead people to Treasure Island. Soon, pirates started attacking the inn, to look for the map, and the sea dog died.Jim found out that the sea dog had a map and escaped with his mother. He then bought the map to Doctor Livesey and Squire Trelawney and they decided to set off to the place where there is treasure. Their crew included Long John's Silvers, and Jim managed to know that he is a pirate. There was a battle between the pirates and the rest of the crew, and in the midst Jim went on shore and found a man named Ben Gunn, who had already found the treasure. After the battle was won, Jim and Ben and the part of the crew that were not pirates and managed to survive the battle returned with the treasure.
I liked Jim most in the story because he is brave and determined.

Book Review: James and the Giant Peach

The book I read was James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. James Henry Trotter, and 4 year old boy, was orphaned and had to live with his horrible aunt Sponge and Spiker. After 3 years of torture, James met an old man who gives him a magical potion and consumption of which would "Give James wealth happiness and great adventure". However, James accidently dropped the sack and it burst into magical green crystals that vanished into the soil. However, the old peach tree near their house suddenly beared a giant peach. Sponge and Spiker thought they could make a profit out of this, and thus decided to charge people for viewing the peach. One night, James went into the giant peach and saw colossal insects: the Centipede, Miss Spider, the Old-Green-Grasshopper, the Silkworm, the Earthworm, Mrs. Ladybird and the Glowworm. The peach itself broke off from the tree and squashed the aunts, as it sails across the Atlantic to New York. They had nice adventures on the way there.
I like James because he is brave and he told us that nothing is impossible, even at such a low point in life you can still bounce up.
I love eating my ice-cream,
always nice and always sweet.
I will never stop eating it,
cos it is way more delicious than meat.

I love eating my ice-cream,
cos they are as delicious as they seem.
And I prefer licking it,
to eating it.

I love eating my ice-cream,
cos it never ever has heat.
Ahh, the melted cream down your cheek,
just make you feel so fantastic.

Poem on school life

Every morning at 7 o'clock,
I wake up and look at my clock.
"Oh no!I am late for school!
Later teacher scold!"

Lessons are boring,
Until there is P.E. where everyone starts running.
Then there is recess,
But the time for it was way too less.

Then we have lessons again,
We were all trying to be sane.
The teachers keep teaching,
And we keep sleeping.

Then the bell rang,
"Yay Yay"we sang.
Then we became insane.
What a typical day.

What were the poet’s thought/ feelings as he thought about his school days ?
He probably thought that it was interesting and memorable and thus probably felt sad about missing his school days. This is shown when he can remember almost every single thing in his old school life quite vividly, even though it was many years before, such as remembering his best friend shading all 'A's for his chinese multiple choice paper and crows trying to interrupt them when they were singing the national anthem. These are the things that one can forget easily if they are not memorable. If they are memorable, the writer is probably missing it and thus he is sad.

Think back on your days in primary school. Do you share the same sentiments? What were your memories of those days?
Yes, I do share these sentiments.I am now missing primary school because now secondary school is far tougher than primary school and i miss the days in primary school where I can slack much more than now. Also, i miss primary school because I had many fond memories there, which include playing pranks on teachers by putting fake vomit on the exam papers and viewing their reaction;and always not doing projects unless the next day is the deadline.I also remember the times when i was only Primary 2 or 3 and I was staying back to play soccer almost everyday.Of course, i have happy and sad memories. The happy memories include:me playing catching with my classmates, me eating ice cream in school(lol)and me playing and making a fool in the classroom and getting scolded by teachers. The sad memories include:The inevitable separation between my classmates and I(different secondary schools).Overall, the 6 years of my life in primary school would definitely be missed by me.I look forward to going back to my primary school someday when i am not busy, especially with my friends

I am screwed

I am screwed for my tests...I wonder why.Is it because of me not revising enough?Or is it because of the difficulty of the papers. Many of my friends did not do well too.Hmm...maybe eating ice cream can make me think more easily...

B.B. and The Taximan Story

Today our class had a discussion about two stories: B.B. and The Taximan Story.I was asked to write about my opinion on both stories.First, lets talk about B.B.
B.B.
B.B. is a story that tells you about a family in which the parents argue often and they prevent the argument by not telling their husband/wife but their daughter, B.B. instead. In the start of the story, B.B. shared a good relation with his father, as he told her secrets that her mother did not know. However, at the end of the story, the relationship became worse as some of the secrets B.B. must keep made her feel pressurized. B.B. had a better relationship with her mother towards the end of the story, because they were forced to live together without her father.
I think that the main reason for all the things happening is that the parents of B.B. often misunderstood each other and in order to prevent that misunderstanding, they decided to keep secrets from each other.
The Taximan Story
The Taximan Story is a story that presents to you the point of view of a parent( the taximan). The Taximan was a strict father and he believe in beating the child to let him/her learn. His youngest daughter, Lay Choo, was a victim of his beating. While I believe that children should have the rights to do anything they want, I also beileve that Lay Choo crossed the line. She should be studying, while her father is out there trying to earn more money to allow her to go to university, instead of taking advantage of the fact that her father is busy and do some other things.
I think the main reason why these things are happening is because the taximan and his wife did not make Lay Choo respect them.

yum yum

I glanced at the ice cream. It sure looked appealing, even though it seemed to be melting.Should I eat it now, or put it in the freezer first.I debated with myself for a few moments and decided to put it in the freezer first. However, when I looked at it, I could not resist the urge.I tried to tell myself not to eat it now, but I (somehow) am unable to do that. I wolfed it down...

difference between the way up to heaven and lamb to the slaughter

The way up to heaven:Mr Foster was killed by being trapped in a lift. Mrs Foster planned the murder. Mrs Foster was fearful of being late and Mr Foster always wants to make he worried by making her wait unnecessarily. Mrs Foster's alibi is the driver of her house.
Lamb to the slaughter:Mr Maloney was killed by being hit on his head by a piece of frozen lamb. Mrs Maloney hit her husband without planning. Mrs Maloney always thought that her family is prefect and is too easily contended. Mr Maloney did not want his wife to be too caring as it may affect his career, so, he plans to leave his wife. Mrs Maloney's alibi is sam.
There may be many differences between the way up to heaven and lamb to the slaughter, but they are also similar in many ways. They both show that sometimes women can be very shrewd. It also shows us that we should not try to purposely piss someone off and that we should spent some time with the family, and not think about work or school(or computer games) everytime.

Deception in male child.
The main character in the story, chuan poon, has six daughters and yearns for a child. He has a devoted wife and he cares for her.He is a dutiful husband and a father and believes that he has been cursed with six girls, because of the sins he had commited. He prays everyday for a son.
His visit to the brothel changed all that.He is enamoured by the wiles and charms of a prostitude that he wants to marry. He needs an excuse to leave his wife and now pary for a girl instead.
I feel he should not have celebrated by going to the brothel. What he plans to do is a selfish thing. He may be enjoying, but what about his wife? His daughters? They will be abandoned!
